Plastic has become a very popular material for parts production. Still there seems to be a turn in this development. As parts have more functionality and the need for strength increases, plastic reaches its limits. Plastic does not handle continous tension very well.
This “creep” limits the maximum possible load. Solutions like glas-reïnforcement and special plastics are a possibility but only with severe cost increase. Metal can be a very good alternative, provided it can be formed to the desired shape. That’s exactly the problem our customer was faced with. Creating an actuator for bigger car-mirrors to put them in a parking position it seemed like plastic could not do the job. So they asked NGF if it was possible to form the house from metal.
A very interesting question and a big challenge for NGF in which we succeeded. Using the deep-drawing process in seemed possible to form the parts making them e highly competitive alternative. NGF was awarded with the contract for developing the Tools and producing these parts in quantities exceeding 1 million per year. For this we installed a new special Press and deliveries started from januari 2006.
